August 2, 1928 – April 6, 2024

 

Mildred “Millie” Ava Dykes, age 95 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at her home under hospice care.

Millie was born on August 2, 1928, in Cadillac, MI. She was the daughter of the late Bert and Clara (Cornell) Stevens. Millie graduated from Monroe High School in 1946.

After school, Millie first met the love of her life, Bueford as neighbors first. They were married on June 12, 1948. She was a loving homemaker to her husband and kids. They raised a family of eight children and spent over 74 wonderful years together, before Bueford sadly passed away in 2022.

In her free time, she liked to crochet, play card games, and specially making food or treats for her loved ones. Millie was the best cook and baker. She was known for her chicken n’ sliders, her zucchini bread, and the best cinnamon rolls. Millie was the queen of homemade pies made from scratch. She loved cooking for any Holiday when everyone got together.

Millie enjoyed being outside attending to her vast vegetable garden and taming the flower beds. She used to can all her veggies to preserve them and enjoy her flowers, especially red roses, were her favorite. Millie will be remembered for being the best mom ever to her kids. She was always kind and loved everyone she met. Millie will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Beloved mother of Christine (JC) Smith, Eileen Thomas, Richard Dykes, Vicki (Stephen) Mazur, Brad Dykes, Cheryl (Thomas) St. Bernard, Robert (Kathy Young) Dykes, and Joyce (Joseph) DeSloover. Loving grandmother of Heather Thomas, Shawna (Nick) Ingram, James (Beth) Hammermaster, Larry Hammermaster, Kaitlyn Dykes, Jamie Dykes, Michael (Melissa) Fuher, Christie (Matt Vodry) Blevins, Nicholas Blevins, Joseph DeSloover III, Christine (Brian) DeSloover, and Andrew DeSloover. Great grandmother of 18 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by numerous extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by husband: Bueford Dykes, infant daughter: Marleen Dykes, and brother: Richard Cornell.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:30 to 6 pm. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 6 pm on Saturday. Officiating is Rev. Larry Detruf. Burial of cremains will be interred at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.
