Virginia Schilling Obituary

Virginia D. Schilling

April 10, 1926 – April 8, 2024

Virginia Dorothy Schilling, age 97 of Monroe, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe.

Born on April 10, 1926 in Manchester, Michigan, Virginia was the daughter of the late Lynn and Rena (Roberts) Hubbard. She was a 1943 graduate of Macon High School Macon, MI. She attended Michigan State College of Agricultural and Applied Sciences (MSU). She married Ervin A. Schilling on June 20, 1948 in St. Peter Episcopal Church in Tecumseh, MI.

She worked at A&P from 1946-1948 in Tecumseh, this is where she met her future husband, Ervin. After her marriage she spent her time going forward as a mother and homemaker. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Monroe, MI. There she enjoyed spending time with the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), choir, Sunday School Teacher, Tuesday morning quilters, and socializing during coffee hour and other community events. She also enjoyed serving as Den Mother for her sons as they went through the Boy Scouts.

Virginia had many passions in life. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, camping, parades, and family gatherings.

Virginia is survived by three sons David (Janet) Schilling of Ida, Steven (Lila) Schilling of Monroe, Timothy (Margaret) Schilling of LaSalle, a daughter Susan (Mark) Tibai of Monroe; sister-in-law Fern Hubbard and brother-in-law John Cisco; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband Ervin Schilling; son Douglas Schilling; sister Jean Kemp; brothers Richard Hubbard and Russell Hubbard; and granddaughter Mary Grace Tibai.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2 to 7 pm. The funeral service will be on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Trinity Episcopal Church (304 S Monroe St, Monroe, MI 48161) starting at 10 am. Officiating is The Rev. James Bischoff, Pastor of the church. The luncheon will be held immediately after the service. Those wishing to go to the cemetery may meet us out at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh for committal prayers at 2 pm.

The family would like to thank her caregivers at ProMedica Monroe and Toledo, and at Medilodge in Monroe. We would especially like to thank her three “partners in crime” at Medilodge: MaryAnn, MaryAnn, and Debra.  They were great friends to her during her short stay and we were very comforted in knowing that Mom had such good people to be with.

Memorial donations are suggested to Trinity Episcopal Church Restoration Fund or Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
